Prototype 1

Prototype 1

Our first prototype was very basic. Players would roll a regular 6 sided die to move around the board. We had separate stats for hunger and thirst, and a player who failed to maintain those stats would lose the game. We also had it set up so that players would have to go to a certain spot in the vendor area to obtain the items they need, and when they reached that spot, they would be guaranteed the item they needed.

After play-testing our first prototype, we decided to change the way the game works entirely. Instead of moving one space at a time across the board, players can now move freely between 4 different areas. To get to these areas, players must both spend energy and roll a die to encounter a random event. The random event can either be beneficial to the player or quite damaging. Each of the 4 areas has a number of actions that can be performed while the player is in them.

For our third prototype, we didn't physically change the game at all, but we made some significant rule changes. Players now receive random items from vendors, making it more challenging to collect all items needed. If a player receives the wrong item, they can either resell it for half the value or trade with another player. We also added Popularity, which can be gained through random events and benefit the player during the costume contest.
